hey guys! so in today's video i will show you three cheap decor ideas that can really be accent pieces for your room without spending a lot of money all of them are really simple and under 5 euros for the flower vase you will need: a jar some tape and any color spray-paint

the first thing you need to do is stick some tape pieces in the jar to create some pattern i decided to make circles but you can go with stripes, chevron or any design that you have in mind then carefully spray paint the jar in a ventilated place. after removing the tape you can put some little stones if you like and your fake or fresh flowers.

for the perfume stand you will simply need a candlestick holder and a small mirror as you see mine is square but you can use a rounded one too this diy just consist on gluing the both pieces together with strong glue let it dry for a couple of hours and place your perfumes on it. i also added some random crystals to give a nice touch

as you see it's super simple but it can look great inyour room for the last diy you will need: black cord printed bird silhouettes some printed pictures small wooden pins and double sided tape first, print the birds' silhouettes that you can find on google images and cut them. then take the black cord and put it across any wall of your room.

is actually an extremelypowerful social infrastructure that we can actually harness to help heal someof our deepest civic issues, if we apply open-source collaboration. a couple of years ago, i read an article by new york timeswriter michael pollan, in which he argued that growingeven some of our own food is one of the best thingsthat we can do for the environment. now at the time that i was reading this,

it was the middle of the winter and i definitely did not have roomfor a lot of dirt in my new york city apartment. so i was basically just willing to settle for just reading the next wired magazine and finding out how the expertswere going to figure out how to solve all these problemsfor us in the future. but that was actually exactly the point that michael pollanwas making in this article --

it's precisely when we hand over the responsibilityfor all these things to specialists that we cause the kind of messesthat we see with the food system. so, i happen to knowa little bit from my own work about how nasa has been using hydroponics to explore growing food in space. and that you can actuallyget optimal nutritional yield by running a kind of high-qualityliquid soil over plants' root systems. now to a vegetable plant,

my apartment has got to beabout as foreign as outer space. but i can offer some natural light and year-round climate control. fast-forward two years later: we now have window farms, which are vertical, hydroponic platforms for food-growing indoors. and the way it worksis that there's a pump at the bottom, which periodically sends this liquidnutrient solution up to the top,

which then trickles downthrough plants' root systems that are suspended in clay pellets -- so there's no dirt involved. now light and temperature varywith each window's microclimate, so a window farm requires a farmer, and she must decide what kind of crops she is goingto put in her window farm, and whether she is goingto feed her food organically. back at the time,

a window farm was no morethan a technically complex idea that was going to requirea lot of testing. and i really wanted itto be an open project, because hydroponics is one of the fastestgrowing areas of patenting in the united states right now, and could possibly becomeanother area like monsanto, where we have a lot of corporateintellectual property in the way of people's food.

so i decided that,instead of creating a product, what i was going to do was open this upto a whole bunch of codevelopers. the first few systems that we created,they kind of worked. we were actually able to growabout a salad a week in a typical new york cityapartment window. and we were able to grow cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, all kinds of stuff. but the first few systems

were these leaky, loud power-guzzlers that martha stewartwould definitely never have approved. (laughter) so to bring on more codevelopers, what we did was we createda social media site on which we published the designs, we explained how they worked, and we even went so far as to point out everythingthat was wrong with these systems.

and then we invited peopleall over the world to build them and experiment with us. so actually now on this website, we have 18,000 people. and we have window farmsall over the world. what we're doingis what nasa or a large corporation would call r&d,or research and development. but what we call it is r&d-i-y, or "research and develop it yourself."

so, for example, jackson came along and suggested that we use air pumpsinstead of water pumps. it took building a whole bunchof systems to get it right, but once we did, we were able to cutour carbon footprint nearly in half. tony in chicago has been taking ongrowing experiments, like lots of other window farmers, and he's been able to gethis strawberries to fruit for nine months of the yearin low-light conditions by simply changing outthe organic nutrients.

and window farmers in finlandhave been customizing their window farms for the dark days of the finnish winters by outfitting them with led grow lights that they're now makingopen source and part of the project. so window farms have been evolving through a rapid versioning processsimilar to software. and with every open source project, the real benefit is the interplay between the specific concernsof people customizing their systems

for their own particular concerns, and the universal concerns. so my core team and i are able to concentrateon the improvements that really benefit everyone. and we're able to look outfor the needs of newcomers. so for do-it-yourselfers, we provide free,very well-tested instructions so that anyone, anywhere around the world,

can build one of these systems for free. and there's a patent pendingon these systems as well that's held by the community. and to fund the project, we partner to create products that we then sellto schools and to individuals who don't have timeto build their own systems. now within our community,a certain culture has appeared. in our culture,it is better to be a tester

who supports someone else's idea than it is to be just the idea guy. what we get out of this projectis support for our own work, as well as an experienceof actually contributing to the environmental movement in a way other than justscrewing in new light bulbs. but i think that eleen expresses best what we really get out of this, which is the actual joy of collaboration.

so as soon as i walk in thefront door after a long day, my mail lands here. and these are just rubberboating straps. i always like to useuntapped design resources 'cause it's cheap. and also it gives yourspace a unique touch. so in my one bedroom apartment,i created all these different living zones so thatthere's a nice flow and a sense of dimensionin the space.

and this kitchen flows rightinto the living room, so i wanted to give it avisual division. and i did that by usingcaviar tins. they're brand new, so ididn't have to deal with the clean up. but i liked using them as acollection to make a real bold style statement on this wall. i guess i got kind of crazyabout chalkboard paint, 'cause it really comes in allthese vibrant colors.

i didn't know that. i used it for my back splash. and since i like typography somuch, that is actually an equations for a hard-boiledegg. so every time i look atit, it makes me smile. so my first approach here inthis apartment was with color. and i actually went dark andchose grays for the wall. but by choosing a cooler coloron the color wheel, it actually tricks the eye intothinking that walls recede and

go further back thanthey really do. and so my living room doeslook a little larger than it really is. right here is my living roomslash home office, and it has to really functionas a home office. this is a six foot desk wherei do all of my work at home, all my blogging. it doubles as a buffettable for parties. it doesn't take up visual realestate, because it is clear.

when i moved into thisapartment, it had no architectural interest at all. it was pretty much afeatureless box. i'm a renter, and most rentershave these ugly folding closet doors. i decided to use artist'sstretcher bars to create my own paneled moulding onthe closet doors. and i used removable picturehanging strips so i can take it with me when i moveto my next space.

so we're in my bedroom. and the ceilings arereally high. i liked keeping it white, but iwanted to have a little bit of dimension and arton the walls. so i found this really greatartist, his name is tord boontje and loved his paperdie cut curtain. so i hung a couple panels onthe wall with just a few tacks, so that i can takeit with me when i leave. shoes just seem to takeover my space.

so i am always looking forstorage solutions, and one of them is to hang themon the wall. all my favorite pairs hangon these lightweight polyurethane strips. i hang them with removablepicture hanging strips. it's strong enough to holdthe shoes without any damage to the walls. i created my own floor lampsout of wall decals. the trick here is the factthat i found out from my

hardware store that a flashlightwall caddy fits a lamp cord perfectly. and there you have it, 3d floorlamp that takes up zero floor space. and voila! i really try to fight clutteralong the way. but i realized i have to createstorage solutions that look great and are reallyeasy to maintain or i'm not going to do it.

hej! we know more and more people are living in small spaces, which means kids are sharing even smaller bedrooms. so we challenged ourselves to make a fun, comfortable shared kids' room as small as possible for a 4 year old and an 8 year old. the key is to create smart, safe solutions using age-based planning, personal spaces and adaptable furniture. we started with a loft bed that’s up high for the 8 year old. below, where it's easier to get in and out, we put in an extendable bed for the 4 year old. then we added personal storage above and under their beds.

curtains give each kid a private space, and the bottom one detaches easily. the loft bed comes with storage, so we made this a wardrobe corner for the 8 year old. we filled the corner with hooks at different heights. a step stool helps reach the top rows. a mirror is a must—especially an unbreakable one. the 8 year old’s space continues with a spot for schoolwork. the desk adapts to height, too. kids learn by copying, so we made a similar work and play space for the 4 year old. there’s more play stuff here with a toy box on wheels and a doll’s house that doubles as shelves. it’s not always fun to share, so we used colours to highlight personal space.
